She is one of those many inspirational people who live in our community. She's made a video about her Parkinson's diagnosis and her work to promote awareness of the disease:

Today I joined Labour Assembly colleagues and steelworkers in a photocall at the Assembly before we had the statement from the First Minister on the steel industry. It was an emotional session, with colleagues representing the areas most affected speaking passionately about the need for action from the UK government. Carwyn spelled out what the Welsh Government had already done and explained what we had committed to doing in future.

Welcome to my campaign website.

The last five years have been the toughest I've known for the Rhondda since I was elected in 2003.

The Tories cut the Welsh budget. Community facilities have been closed and spending on roads and other big capital projects has been cut.

Well, I am only standing for the Rhondda. I have been proud to represent the Rhondda since 2003 when i won the seat back for Labour from Plaid Cymru.

P1010166.jpgIt was the pint of Doom Bar that did it. I was there to re-launch The Greenfield in Ystrad, along with former mayor John Watts and his family. The pub has had a brilliant make-over, which celebrates the mining history of the area in a modern way. Its Cow Pie is famous – I took Carwyn Jones there to sample it during his campaign to become First Minister in 2009.

It’s not often as a politician that you can look back and see that you have personally made a difference. I’ve been lucky enough to do that in a number of areas recently. Over the last five years, decisions I was able to take in my past job as Education Minister have now borne fruit.
